- the theme of a party, or just kind of a sketch
of what the main part of the part is going to be, takes a bit of though.
After all you have to think about what interests do you and most of your
friends share. You also have to think what would keep you all busy,
and keep you having fun. It is best to also pick out mini activities
just in case if you or your guests get bored, or basically if things were
a little rougher than you expected. Also think of some different
ways to explain what you are going to do, to write on the invitations.
2. Pick the Guestlist
-The guestlist might be on the hardest part of party
planning. Sure you might just make a list of all of your friends,
but you also have to think about who gets along with who. I have
been to many parties where someone always feels out of place, or total
snobs are making fun of someone, or you find out two of your good friends
are enemys. But don't worry, there's no pressure. Usually you
should do the guestlist according by theme just to get a good estimate
on what the number should be. Like if your party is something like
bowling, it is totally fine to invite all kinds of your friends of a large
amout becuase it is just a big get together, and you don't have to face
any big consiquences because the party only takes a certain amount of time.
If you are having a sleepover party my suggestion is to pick very close
friends, and pick a min. amount of like 3 people, and the max. amount of
6. Though i always found the best thing to do is to have a big party
with a lot of your friends for like dinner and a large social event everyone
can pretisipate in, and the have a small sleep over party with just a few
close friends, on the same night after the part. That way no one
feels left out and everyone has fun.
3. Set up the Date, and Make the Invo's
- once you got your theme and guestlist going, you
got to organize when it is going to take place, if you can book the place
out, and what exactly you should say on the invites. As for the date,
you have to pick a day which can appeal to everyone. Like don't pick
any week day, because it's a real let down when you don't get to sleep
in the next day, and everyone ends up exhausted. So always pick weekends,
night parties are best because you can party all night long. For
booking the place, i'd say if it's at like a restaurant or something, book
it fast, because they could always be over booked. If it's at your
house, then you're set! Last but definately not least, you have to
pick out invites. it doesnt sound like much but it truely is.
Yo need to find a card that doesnt look cheesy, or overly used, and if
it's home used i say keep it straight and imformal, because it's basically
a waste if you spend so much time writing them out and when they read it
they just throw it away. Also home made invos can end up looking
childish when over done as well, so keep it short and simple. They
also need to have the right information on them, like the exact time and
place, who it's for, what kind of party it's going to be, what to bring,
and directions on how to get there and how you know it'll be the place.
The last key to good invites, is to have cards that can relate to the theme
a bit, it can give off a kind of fun feel.
4. Get Organized!
- on the day of the party it is best to run over
the overall plan. You don't want any last minute miss-haps.
Next, think about your are or surrondings that you are going to be with
at the party, and find a way to spice the place up a little bit with different
kinds of decoration that really make the party look festive. You
always want people to have fun, and believe or not people have more fun
when they area around them is colorful, and tasteful verse dull and boring.
Also think about what you are going to be serving as for food and refreshments,
a party is never really a party without something to eat or drink.
Pick kind of snacky foods, nothing fancy, guests like to eat things they
can identify. Take foods such as pizza, and pop, maybe ice cream
cups, and crazy bread, cheese sticks, or something, mostly finger food.
Always use paper plates and cups, so that they dont have to worry about
where to put the dishes, and they can just through away the mess.
One of the most important things though, is to pick the best outfit.
The outfit after all says a lot about you, pick colors that compliment
each other and match your personality, and when you talk to people, let
them see the real you. Lastly, make them comfy and cozy, and keep
sitting areas as they are, and let them form into casual eating areas,
just go with the flow.
5. Have fun!
- when you're party is finally getting started, and
the guests have arived you might be feeling kind of tense, but the final
thread to hosting the party of the year is to just relax and go with the
flow, let people do what they want, and don't be compulsive with specific
schedules. If the host or hostess is uptight, then the party will
suck. Ignore the future of possible trash clean up and other stuff,
just let the guests roam free, sink your teeth into some pizza, and chat
with your friends. When guests start to leave, dont be totally focused
on when or why they are going, be casual about it and end with a short
statement or question, like, "Hope you enjoyed the party!" or "Can't wait
til next time... (*name)" Then go back to the party, and chat with
the remaining guest. With these five steps, you'll be having the
party of the year.
