In case if you did not know, all music is broken into groups before it is even published.  The separation of music is called Genre.  Each Genre describes what the music is about, and kind of what it is saying.  Like Weezer (one of my favorite bands) is in the "PopRock" section, because of the way their music sounds.  So music genres can be separated by almost anything that can describe them or their music, like the rhythm, beat, instruments they use, lyrics, sound of the music or even the bands image.  So the next time you go to a store to by some new cd's think about what you are looking for, and why you are.
 

    Now for some of the favorite genres and why, plus some good bands that are in that category. (top 5)
 

1. 1.  Pop Rock:  Why chose this genre?  Why not?  It's one of the perfect genres, because it can combined the instrumental background, like the guitar and drums, along with an easier, flow to the music, and a combination of the heavy or light lyrics.  So you can get two in one, with all the benefits.   Recommendation:  Weezer.
2. 2.  Rock / Classic Rock:  Admit it, you know you like to bang your head in the music, and scream out loud.  You know that the one thing you'd like to do is crash a party and say it's all about the music... well maybe not that far.  Well at least you know what I'm talking about.  Whether it's the new age rock with a more main stream, like the White Stripes, to the classic rock that reminds you about what rock really is, like the Rolling Stones, you know you just have to love it.
3. 3.  Emo / Techno:  The way the music just sounds is the best.  You might be like emo, what is that?  Well emo is more of an image name.  Like it might sound stupid, but it sometimes is people who wear black glasses.  But before you just to conclusions, remember, not all are like that, and the sound is what matters.  The techno part comes in on the instrument level, it just adds to a pretty great sound.  And together, it sounds great, even the lyrics rock.  Recommendation:  The Postal Service.
4. 4.  Depressing:  You know that there are certain points of the day where you are tired out, pissed off or just plain sad.  Well this genre could also be called the "mixed emotion" genre because whether you are sad, or mad, then this is the genre for you.  Sometimes you can even be happy and listen to this kind of music because sometimes, this is just good stuff!  Recommendation:  Dashboard Confessional.
5. 5.  R&B:  R&B or Rhythm and Beat is always great, whether its Usher of some other guy, it is always fun to listen to.  Even though I think Rap, even though it is called the poetry of the century, is not really that good of music, there are some exceptions.  What does R&B have to do with rap?  Rap kind of is the product of R&B, and mixed together it can sound pretty nice. Always a good section of music.  Recommendation:  Usher.
